About Delmarva Paint Horse Club

The Delmarva Paint Horse Club was formed on August 1, 1991 by a small group of Paint Horse enthusiasts who wanted to promote the American Paint Horse in the State of Delaware and on the Eastern Shores of History of DPHAMaryland and Virginia.  At that time there were very few registered paints in this area, but the interest in the breed was quickly growing.  During the late 1980's and early 90's there were also no APHA recognized shows in this area.  This group of hardworking members formed the Delmarva Paint Horse Club in 1991 and immediately began planning their first APHA show to be held at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington, Delaware.

Since that time the club has seen many changes in the size of the membership as well as the number of APHA approved shows held each year.  While our shows continue to be held at the Delaware State Fairgrounds each year, the fairgrounds have seen many changes and improvements through the years.  The original barns were replaced with safer modern barns, the original show pen was replaced by a beautiful covered arena.  The fairgrounds added a casino with  slots, card and table games, as well as several restaurants. Daily simulcast harness racing and seasonal live harness racing was available on the fairgrounds for entertainment.  An ice skating rink was also added to the fairgrounds.

As the Delmarva Paint Horse Club grew though the years the members became active in many community projects as well.  The club has supported various charitable organizations such as Shepard's Place, local ASPCAs, The American Red Cross, and The USO.  The section of Route 13 near the State Fairgrounds was adopted by the Delmarva Paint Horse Club and members participated in Highway Clean-ups.  Members also donated time providing information on The American Paint Horse in booths at the Delaware State Fair, Horse Expos and with the Delaware Equine Council.

A junior/youth club was established in 1997.  This gave our youth members an opportunity to hold their own special events, fund raising activities, awards and recognition of achievements.  The DJPHC has also been very active in community service and supporting various charitable organizations.

The Delmarva Paint Horse Club also supports its youth members by awarding annual scholarships to qualified youth members.  For more information on our scholarship program, click here.

In recognition of Delmarva Paint Horse Club's achievements and charitable contributions it has been awarded the APHA Gold Star award every year since 1995.  The club has been awarded the APHA Club of Distinction Award in 2002 and 2004, also receiving APHA Club of Distinction Honorable Mention in 2006 and 2008 and a Certificate of Participation in 2010.
